Ujjain, MP, July 9 (UNI) History-sheeter Vikas Dubey – the prime accused for whom Uttar Pradesh Police had launched a manhunt of epic proportions after eight law-enforcement personnel attained martyrdom in a hail of gunfire on the intervening night of July 2 and 3 at Bikru village within Kanpur District’s Choubepur area – was placed under arrest along with accomplices Bittu and Suresh during a comparatively low-key episode early Thursday in this divisional headquarters’ Mahakal Chowki limits.
While Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan heartily felicitated the state force, the incident was quickly lent political hues as the opposition Congress – specifically erstwhile chief ministers Digvijaya Singh and Kamal Nath – raised eyebrows over the entire sequence of events.
“It appears to be a sponsored surrender in order to avoid an encounter by Uttar Pradesh Police. I am in possession of inputs that all this became possible by courtesy of a senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader,” Mr Singh conveyed via social media.
