Bikaru Ambush: Fourth accused arrested, 2 looted automatic rifles recovered

Kanpur, Jul 14 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh police on Tuesday arrested the fourth accused and recovered two looted automatic assault rifles 12 days after the Bikaru police ambush in which eight policemen were brutally killed and their arms were looted.

One Sashikant, on whom state police had announced a bounty of Rs 50,000 was arrested by Kanpur police at Mela Tiraha under Choubeypur police station early this morning and has recovered the looted AK-47 and an Insas rifle.



State additional director general of police (ADG law and order) Prashant Kumar told media persons here that while AK 47 along with 17 live cartridges were recovered from the house of Vikas Dubey, the Insas assault rifle along with 20 round of bullets were recovered from the house of Sashikant.



He also displayed the recovered firearms and brought Sashikant before the media.



Refusing to disclose anything more or even answer to any question of the scribes, Mr Kumar said an investigation was underway and they will reveal the details when required.



He said that a total of 21 accused have been identified in the Bikaru ambush incident in which four including Sashikant, Shamu, Dhan Yadav and Dayashanker have been arrested while 6 were killed in encounters.



The criminals killed in the encounters were Vikas Dubey, Amar Dubey, Atul Dubey, Prabhat, Praveen and Rajnish.



Besides this, 7 people have been sent to jail under section 120(B) and 2 under section 216 of the IPC.



He said 11 accused are still absconding including the two Guddan and Sonu who were caught in Mumbai and were being brought here on transit remand.
