New Delhi, Sep 24 (UNI) Launching an all-out attack on Narendra Modi government over the Rs 59,000 crore controversial Rafale fighter jet deal, the Congress party on Monday met Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) and demanded to register a case on the deal.
The delegation comprising of leaders Gulam Nabi Azad, Anand Sharma, Kapil Sibal, Randeep Singh Surjewala, Jairam Ramesh, Abhishek Manu Singhvi, Manish Tiwari, Viveka Tankha, Pramod Tiwari, Pranav Jha met CVC KV Chowdary and submitted a detailed memorandum to "take cognizance to seize all files and documents to register an FIR".
"A delegation of Congress leadership has met the CVC. We have submitted a detailed memorandum on the Rafale purchase scam, which has global ramifications. It is the biggest scam in the defence acquisition history of the country", said Anand Sharma.
He further added, "The fact is that this was arbitrary decision of the Prime Minister of India, who without any mandate from the Cabinet Committee on Security, decided to do away with three important things of the original tender of purchase of 126 planes, transfer of technology, HAL was the partner of the manufacturer of 108 planes and more importantly, the brute price of 526 crores that went upto 1670 crores".
"The government is lying and hiding", Mr. Sharma said.
Few days back, the Congress leadership had approached the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) and demanded probe in the Rafale jet deal.
Congress has alleged corruption by Modi government for buying 36 Rafale fighter jet from France's Dassault Aviation by paying higher price than what was negotiated by the UPA government is to 'protect the interest of particular business groups'.
The controversy escalated after former French President Francois Hollande stated that Indian government had suggested Anil Ambani led Reliance Defence as the offset partner in the deal. While the government has denied any wrong doing in selecting Mr Ambani as offset partner and said it has no role.
The opposition led by Congress party is intensifying its fight over the controversy.
Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Sunday attacked Narendra Modi government and said "Mr Jaitley’s specialty is his ability to spin “2 truths”, or lies, with fake self righteousness and indignation to defend the indefensible. It’s high time he, the RM and our PM stop lying and call a Joint Parliamentary Committee to establish the full, uncorrupted truth about the Rafale scam".
