Bengal Water Sports team to compete at China International Dragon Boat Race

Kolkata, Nov 1 (UNI) A fifteen-member team from city based Bengal Water Sports (BWS) led by veteran oarsman Shakil Ahmed left here to take part at the 2019 China International Dragon Boat Race to be held at Dian Lake in Kunming, China, during November 1-3.
Other members of the team are Rajarshi Giri, Ms. Khusi Agarwal, Gautam Bairagi, Afridi Ali, Karan Agarwal, Ms. Swastika Basu, Ms. Zhuoma Jinan, Ms Ruqayia Swaleha, Gautam Bairagi, Abhoy Agarwal, Siladitya Mondal, Vibhor Kejriwal (all paddlers), Ms. Yashvi Chaudhari (drummer) and Ishika Das (helmperson).
Speaking before the departure, Shakil, who is also the coach of the team, informed that they had practiced on the BWS’ own Dragon Boat at the Eco Park water body in New Town for a number of days. The team also include five paddlers who have earlier represented Indian team at the International Dragon Boat Race Championship held in Thailand during August last where it finished at 26th position out of total 60 countries.
