Kolkata, Aug 10 (UNI) West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday said that the government would seek capital punishment, for those who have been involved in the heinous physical assault and subsequent murder of a postgraduate trainee doctor at the RG Kar MedicalCollege and Hospital on Friday.
The Chief Minister, who was at Jhargram on Friday and spoke to the bereaved parents, on Saturday said she has full support for the junior doctors' protests on the issue and opined that the government is open to a CBI probe to unravel the truth.
She also assured a fast-track trial for the case.
Banerjee said the government will seek the death penalty for those accused in the sexual assault and murder of a woman postgraduate trainee doctor, whose body was discovered at a government hospital seminar room on the 3rd floor on Friday around 11 am.
The case will be pursued in a fast track court.
Kolkata Police have arrested a suspect, identified as Sanjay Roy, in the alleged rape and murder case.
