New Delhi, May 21 (UNI) The Supreme Court on Tuesday dismissed a PIL filed by an independent candidate against the Election Commission of India's appointment of two retired bureaucrats, Vivek Debey and Ajay Nayak, as special observers for the Lok Sabha polls in Bengal, which were marred by violence.
Mr Ramu Mandi asserted that former government officials should not be appointed as special observers to oversee the Lok Sabha elections, as they may try to influence and bias the polls.
"The former officials may try to influence the elections in some way or the other. Thereby, they should not be appointed as Special Observers," the Independent candidate from Barrackpore contended .
