Kolkata, Sep 19 (UNI) Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE) Ltd's chairman cum managing director Rear Admiral (retd) Vipin Kumar Saxena today said the West Bengal government has approached the company for possible erection of two bailey bridges in south Kolkata to ease traffic after collapse of Majerhat bridge on Diamond Harbour Road near Taratala, the industrial and port hub of the city.
The falling of concreted Majerhat bridge on September 4, in which three persons were killed and over two dozen people injured, virtually clogged the traffic a major part of South 24 Parganas district and completely stopping of goods laden trucks to and fro of Kidderpore dock in south Kolkata.
Admiral Saxena while announcing the issuance of IPO (initial public offerings) of the defence PSU - GRSE- told reporters that a group of officials from the state government and Kolkata Police approached him with a proposal for erection of two bailey bridges in south Kolkata to ease the traffic.
