New Delhi/Kolkata, Jan 27 (UNI) Amid the European Union (EU) Parliament's bid to introduce an anti-CAA resolution and Shaheen Bagh in the national capital 'celebrating the Republic Day differently', the Mamata Banerjee government is tabling a resolution against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act during a special session of Bengal Assembly on Monday.
Bengal will be the fourth state to introduce a resolution against CAA, after Kerala, Punjab and Rajasthan.
'We are going to bring an official resolution against the CAA-NRC-NPR on January 27. We expect all parties to attend the session and help us adopt an unanimous resolution on the issue,' Bengal Parliamentary Affairs Minister Partha Chatterjee had said on January 21.
Mr Chatterjee also told the mediapersons that he had Informed Leader of Opposition (LoP) Abdul Mannan about the move.
Calling the move "better late than never", the Left Front and Congress said the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) had scuttled the proposal, when they had insisted on it, after the Kerala Assembly moved an anti-CAA resolution.
"The Opposition wanted to bring a resolution in the House in September. But that was not allowed," Mr Mannan said.
According to Left Front legislature party leader Sujan Chakrabarty, "The ruling party did not allow such a resolution, when the Opposition wanted to bring it.
The Rajasthan Assembly had passed a resolution on Saturday, urging the Centre to repeal the contentious CAA, amid opposition by BJP, which accused the Ashok Gehlod-led Congress government of parsing appeasement politics.
