Bengal Congress president Somen Mitra no more

New Delhi/Kolkata Jul 30 (UNI) Bengal Congress president Somen Mitra passed away at a Kolkata hospital early Thursday following cardiac arrest.
He was 78.
Mitra was not keeping well recently and was admitted in the hospital a few days back. His condition deteriorated last night and the end came at 0150 hours.
Mitra was first elected to the Bengal Assembly in 1972 as Congress MLA from the Sealdah Assembly Constituency.
He was re-elected to the state Assembly in 1977 as Janata Party member.
A pall of gloom descended in the political circle hearing the demise of Mitra.
Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi and a number of senior party leaders condoled his demise.
