New Delhi, Jan 21 (UNI) Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Manoj Tiwari on Sunday came forth to defend North Delhi Mayor Preeti Aggarwal, who had made controversial remarks in the factory fire incident in Delhi's Bawana Industrial Area which claimed lives of 17 people.
Talking to a news channel, the Delhi BJP president said the North Delhi Mayor's remarks were not clear and she was misquoted in order to spoil the party's image.
"Preeti Aggarwal was asking the officials under whom does the factory come. The conversation is not clear, only 'ye factory' is clear. People are trying to make that fake video viral at a sad time just to blame the BJP," the BJP leader said.
Mr Tiwari attacked Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for re-tweeting the 'video' and demanded his apology over it.
The BJP mayor ruled out saying anything wrong in the video which went viral on social media.
"A video of me is being made viral on social media and has been re-tweeted by CM as well. I only made some inquiry about the place from my co-workers and I meant we shouldn't say anything about such unfortunate incident at this time," she told a news channel.
Demanding an apology from the Chief Minister for re-tweeting the video, she said, "This industrial area is under DSIDC and land allotment has been done by Delhi Government. They should at least see what work is being done there. Is making a fake video viral and confusing public is fair? It's condemnable and I expect Arvind Kejriwal Ji to apologise."
Delhi Police has arrested the person operating the factory in Bawana that was engulfed in fire on Saturday evening claiming 17 lives. A case was registered under the explosives Act in this matter and the person who ran this factory illegally has been held, a senior police official said.
