Bangladesh will not forget Tripura's role towards its liberation:Delegation

Udaipur(Tripura), Apr 19(UNI)Assistant High Commissioner of Bangladesh, Kirti Chakma along with a high level delegation today visited Melaghar, a small village in the Sipahijala district, where the second headquarters of the Bangladesh Liberation War was established in 1971.
The delegation, which included Additional Attorney General of Bangladesh High Court Shahidur Rahaman, said,"The contribution of the people of Tripura towards Bangladesh's liberation is huge. Bangladesh will not forget it."
"India assumed an active role in our struggle for freedom. Indira Gandhi ordered air and ground attacks. India, with its superior equipment and forces, mounted a three-pronged movement on Dhaka from the Indian provinces of West Bengal, Assam, and Tripura.
"The Indian Army, Air Force, and Navy defeated the Pakistani army, while the Bangladeshi Navy also helped India. On the ground, three groups of Mukti Bahini and Indian forces fought the Pakistanis. The Pakistanis tried to fight back, but failed to resist them,"the delegation said.
The delegation said the government of Bangladesh wants to build memorials to mark the places in Tripura where common people and soldiers struggled and martyred during the country's liberation war.
The Hasina government is also looking at identifying and felicitating the people in the state, who supported and fought the liberation war alongside the people of Bangladesh.
Apart from Melaghar, there are many places like Suryamaninagar, Akhaura, Palatana in Tripura which sheltered Muktibahini and Bangladeshi refugees at the time of the liberation war.
