Bangladesh's Bandarban district cut off by floods and landslides adversely affecting over 100,000

Bandarban, Jul 11 (UNI) Severe flooding and landslides triggered by days of relentless monsoon rain have left large parts of Bangladesh's hill district of Bandarban submerged, cutting off road links with the rest of the country and affecting more than 100,000 people.
Authorities said floodwaters have inundated 29 of the district's 34 unions, with more than 500 villages affected as rivers continue to swell above danger levels. At least five people have been reported dead in Bandarban amid wider monsoon-related casualties across the region.
According to the Bangladesh Water Development Board, the Sangu River was flowing at 16.81 metres on Saturday, well above its danger mark of 14.80 metres, while the Matamuhuri River reached 12.13 metres, exceeding its danger level of 11.80 metres.
