Dhaka, Oct 29 (UNI) Bangladesh Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury said, Bangabandhu laid the foundation of women's empowerment in the country.
She said Bangabandhu's philosophy on women's political and economic empowerment is exemplary for all future political leadership.
He was speaking as the chief guest at a virtual discussion on 'Bangabandhu in Women's Empowerment' at a program titled 'Hundred Hours of Mujib Charcha in Mujib Year' organized by Meherpur district administration on Wednesday night.
He said Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the undisputed leader of the Bengali nation, had endured lifelong imprisonment and oppression, but did not bow to injustice. Bangabandhu has fought all his life for the political and economic emancipation of men and women.
State Minister for Public Administration Farhad Hossain delivered the introductory speech as the guest of honor and chief advisor.
The Speaker said that the 'Hundred Hours of Mujib Charcha in Mujib Year' program is a commendable initiative to spread the spirit of Bangabandhu's life, politics and liberation war among the people of all classes and professions of Bangabandhu's ideal society, especially among the students. He mentioned that Mujibnagar maternity hospital in Meherpur played a role in the rise of Bangladesh in the 1971 war of independence.
The Speaker said Bangabandhu's dream was a society and state free from exploitation where equality for all men and women, rule of law, justice and basic needs would be ensured. Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib has always been an inspiration as a shadow companion of Bangabandhu.
On the occasion, the Speaker expressed her valuable views in response to various questions on women empowerment. Meherpur Deputy Commissioner. Mohammad Munsur Alam Khan was the special guest at the presidency of the Khulna Divisional Commissioner Md Anwar Hossain Hawladar.
Also present on the occasion were Shahiduzzaman Khokon MP, former Member of Parliament Md Maqbool Hossain, government officials of different levels of Meherpur district and eminent persons.
