Ban on disposable thermocol products will encourage use of leaf-plates

Patna, Jul 18 (UNI) The Bihar government today said leaf-plates and other alternative products would be encouraged if the ban on disposable thermocol products was imposed.
Replying to a starred question of RJD member Sanjay Prasad in the state legislative council, state environment, forest and climate change minister Sushil Kumar Modi said that disposable thermocol and plastic products were non-biodegradable. He said poisonous gases were released into atmosphere with the burning of these products. He said these products also chocked drains creating problem of water logging.
Mr Modi said these products were also responsible for depletion in the fertility of soil and even posed danger to animals if the eat disposable thermocol and plastic products. If the production of disposable thermocol products was banned, leaf-plates and other alternative products would be encouraged, he added.
