Ballari protest signals BJP revival bid in the region after internal fracas

Ballari, Jan 16 (UNI) The BJP's protest mobilisation in Ballari has pushed the district back into the political spotlight. Framed publicly as a response to the January 1 firing incident — in which a 26-year-old Congress worker was killed during clashes over a banner installation ahead of a Maharishi Valmiki statue programme — the agitation carries a wider political subtext.
Police investigations indicate that the violence followed a clash between supporters aligned with BJP leaders G Janardhan Reddy and B Sriramulu and those backing Congress MLA Nara Bharath Reddy, escalating into stone-pelting and gunfire, with the fatal shot allegedly fired from a privately owned weapon. Multiple cases have been registered, and the CID has taken over the probe.
