Baijal chairs meetings with twin focus on green, solar powered Delhi

New Delhi, Apr 16 (UNI) Lt Governor Anil Baijal on Monday chaired two meetings with twin focus on green and solar powered Delhi.

Mr Baijal chaired two back-to-back meetings, the first one on progress of sanitation and beautification works of the three Municipal Corporations and second on issue of Solar Power Installation in residential sector in Delhi.

The meetings were attended by Chief Secretary, GNCTD, Secretary (Ministry of New and Renewable Energy),Pr. Secretary (UD), GNCTD, Pr. Commissioner, DDA, CEO, DUSIB, Chairman, NDMC, all three Commissioners of the MCDs, Secretary (Power), CEO (BRPL), CEO (BYPL), CEO (TPDDL).

In the first meeting the three Commissioners of respective DMCs apprised the Lt Governor about measures taken regarding ODF, Waste Management, procurement of equipments, cleanliness, sanitation, redevelopment of markets and other important issues of MCDs in Delhi.
At the outset of the meeting, the Lt Governor stated that Open Defecation Free (ODF) Delhi must remain top focus and it should be completed by June 30.
He further directed MCDs to build vertical gardens at flyovers, to be watered with non-potable water only.
The Lt Governor also directed DDA to take up a massive plantation exercise.
The Lt Governor further stressed that vacant Gram Sabha lands to be developed as green parks so that our focus should be on Green Delhi.
In the second meeting, deliberations were held to discuss the present status of Solar Power Installation in residential sector in Delhi, and the way forward for its augmentation.
The Lt Governor directed Power Department to prepare a comprehensive plan with Municipal Corporations for Roof Top Solar PV system in residential sector.
Mr Baijal further stressed that schools, Hospital and offices should be given top priority while making the plan. The Lt Governor urged for an extensive IEC campaign for promoting the use of Solar Energy, so that the residents can be made aware about the various benefits and incentives available in its adoption.
