Bahra varsity to evaluate mid day meal scheme in Himachal

Solan, Apr 20 (UNI) After the authorisation by Himachal Pradesh government to conduct a massive study on the ongoing mid day meal scheme in government schools of this hilly state, a seven member team of varsity has lifted food samples form different schools to ascertain the quality of food being supplied to tiny tots.
The varsity was authorised by the Directorate of Elementary Education for the External Evaluation Study of Mid-day Meal program for Mandi, Kullu, and Lahaul and Spiti districts.
Vice Chancellor Dr Satish Kumar on Saturday said that the University constituted a committee of Head-School of Hospitality and Tourism Parikshit Sharma as Principal Investigator and Assistant Professors of the school Sheetal Sirkek and Varun Thakur along with Dimple Jishtu and Poonam Verma, both Assistant Professors of School of Law as Investigators.
The committee also comprised of four students of School of Hospitality and Tourism Ajay Thakur, Adarsh Kumar, Pankaj and Anu Khachi, all students of final semester of MTTM.
Parikshit informed that a pilot study was conducted with 10 questionnaires, which were further conducted on Teacher, MDM Cook and students. The study area selected was Kullu with clusters Archhandi, Bhunter, Bajaura, Kullu and Manali, on the basis of convenient-cum-judgement sampling.
The questionnaires were administered in Government Primary Schools, Government Senior Secondary Schools and Government Model Schools. A total of 130 representative samples were collected. The questions comprised of demographic profiling, information about Mid-day meal, cleanliness and hygiene and food or medicine samples provided by Health department.
The records pertaining to storage, stock registers were checked.
Parikshit said that it was found that the schools are following the guidelines provided in the Mid-day meal scheme. There are certain suggestions given by the people involved in the MDM works. The department is tabulating the data and a report on the same shall be submitted to the Directorate of Elementary Education within two weeks.
