Ayodhya Diwali to go global this year with Guinness record: UP Tourism Minister

Lucknow, Sep 26 (UNI) The Uttar Pradesh government would create another record of sorts this Deepawali by taking the festival of lights in Ayodhya, the birth place of Lord Ram, to the international arena in November, this year.

The Yogi Adityanath government has plans to make it a mega event this year, even attempting a Guinness world record, when over three lakh diyas will be lighted at Saryu ghats in Ayodhya.

The government would also inaugurate a 300-feet idol of Lord Ram on the occasion, near the Saryu banks.

UP Tourism Minister Rita Bahuguna Joshi on Wednesday told UNI that last year, the function was organised on a micro scale.
''Last year, 1.67 lakh diyas were lighted at Ram ki Pauri ghat in Ayodhya, but this year, over three lakh diyas will be lighted. Last year, it was a one-day affair, while this year, the event will be of three days. We have invited officials from the Guinness Book of World Record to record it,'' the Minister added.
She said last time, the façade lighting was for a while, but this year, it will be permanent façade lighting, so that the entire building at the side of Ram ki Pauri and both the bridges at Ayodhya are lighted up. This city will glitter on Deepawali like never before, she added.
The government has elaborate plans for cultural programmes also. At least four troupes from across the country, particularly from South India, will perform in Ayodhya this year, Ms Joshi added.
''This time, dignitaries will come from South Korea. Some senior Ministers and functionaries from the government will attend the function,'' she said.
About the Ayodhya city, the Minister said the government has already earmarked Rs 200 crore to improve infrastructure in this city. The Saryu Ghat and Ram Ki pauri will be spruced up and the work will be complete before Deepawali.
''Then, there will be tableaux and a Rath yatra will be taken out around the city and there will be cultural programme, which will include art forms of India,'' the Minister said.
Last year, Deepawali was organised in a style in Ayodhya with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath being the chief guest. Models arrived from Delhi and Mumbai to recreate the return of Lord Ram to Ayodhya on the occasion.UNI MB RJ 1500
