Auto Expo: Ranbir, Katrina, Virat, Tendulkar add to glitz of show

Greater Noida, Feb 3 (UNI) It was a star-studded first day at Auto Expo Mart with Bollywood heart-throbs Katrina Kaif, Ranbir Kapoor and cricket icon Virat Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar all making appearance for new launches at the mega show. Ranbir Kapoor was present at the unveiling of first in-house developed motorcycle, Splendor iSmart 110, of world's largest two-wheeler manufacturer Hero MotoCorp. Actress Katrina Kaif launched all-new Jaguar XE sports saloon variants priced at Rs 39.9 lakh and Rs 46.5 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) of Tata Motors-owned JLR. Cricketer Virat Kohli and Bollywood star Alia Bhatt jointly launched , Audi R8 V10 Plus with price of Rs 2.47 crore (ex-showroom, Delhi). The sports car was earlier launched globally at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show. Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar launched new BMW-7 series with starting price of Rs 1.1 crore. Earlier, the flagship biennial automobile show, the Auto Expo, kicked off on with the country's largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki India unveiling new compact SUV 'Vitara Brezza'. More than 80 new cars will make their debut in the five-day long event. Over seven lakh visitors are expected to visit the auto show which will showcase the futuristic technologies with focus on next-generation transportation solutions. Vitara Brezza, which was launched today, will compete with the likes of Ford EcoSport, Mahindra TUV300 and also against Renault Duster and Hyundai Creta which are priced in the range of Rs 6.79 lakh to Rs 13.77 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). With a strong push for environmental-friendly vehicles, it is expected that automakers would put forth ideas and prototypes that might not hit the roads soon but yet give a sneak peek into future automobiles of India. Mahindra is expected to unveil the Reva e20 Sports electric car. Based on the Mahindra Reva Halo, this could be an all-new two-seater EV that claims to cover around 200km when fully charged and reach the top speed of 160kmph. Powered by modern battery technology, it can reach 0-100kmph in under 8 seconds. The Auto Expo 2016 will also display two-wheeler beauties. From TVS’ stables, visitors are likely to get a glimpse of the Apache RTR200, while DSK Benelli is likely to showcase its Tornado 302 sports bike. This is the second time in a row that the Auto Expo is being held at Greater Noida, with its original venue Pragati Maidan proving to be inadequate to host the show. The indoor exhibition space has been increased to 73,000 sq. metre which include six large halls with an additional carpet area of 37240 sq.metre. There were eight halls in the previous edition.
