Austrian interior minister calls for developing repatriation programme for Syria

Vienna, Dec 12 (UNI) There will be no mass deportation of refugees in connection with the current events in Syria, but it is necessary to develop a "repatriation programme" that will be implemented in stages, Austrian Interior Minister Gerhard Karner said.
"In connection with the current events in Syria, there will not be an immediate mass deportation, as some people imagine, but we will not simply ‘drink tea and wait," Karner said on Wednesday.
Karner recalled that Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer had previously instructed him to suspend the consideration of all applications from Syrian citizens for asylum and their requests for family reunification. Karner added that it is now necessary to develop a "structured programme of repatriation and deportation."
