Melbourne, Jan 19 (UNI) India's Rohan Bopanna and his French partner Edouard Roger Vasselin's Australian Open campaign ended with a first round defeat on Wednesday.
The Indo-French men's doubles duo suffered 6-3, 6-7(2), 6-3 in the hands of wild card entrants Christopher Rangkat and Treat Huey in one hour and 48 minutes at the Kia Arena.
India'a highest ranked doubles pro Bopanna entered the tournament with ATP 250 Adelaide Internaltional title win.
In the women's doubles, ace Indian tennis player Sania Mirza who teamed up with Ukraine's Nadia Kechinok Nadiia Viktorivna also suffered a first round defeat and bowed out of the season's first Grand Slam tournament.
The Indian and Ukrainian pair lost the opening match against the Slovenian pair of Kaja Juvan and Tamara Zidansek by 4-6, 6-7 (5).
Both Rohan Bopanna and Sania Mirza are still alive in the Grand Slam as they will compete in the mixed doubles event.
Mirza has paired up with American Rajeev Ram and will begin their campaign on January 20. While Bopanna partnered with Croatia's Darija Jurak Schreiber.
