Lucknow, Mar 27 (UNI) Mafia-turned-politician and former MP Atique Ahmed was brought to Naini central jail in Prayagraj from Sabarmati jail in Gujarat amidst tight security arrangements on Monday, police sources said here.
It may be noted that Atique has to be produced in a special MP-MLA court on Tuesday in connection with the abduction of advocate Umesh Pal, the main witness in Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) MLA Raju Pal murder case.
Jail sources said that Atique will be kept in the high-security cell equipped with CCTV cameras.
"The jail has been turned into a fortress and heavy deployment of security personnel has been made," they said.
Sources said that Atique's son Ali Ahmed is also lodged in the same jail and he too has been kept in a high-security cell. "Atique's brother Ashraf is also being brought to Naini jail from Bareilly," they said.
Sources said that Umesh Pal, who was the main witness of BSP MLA Raju Pal murder murder case, was abducted on February 28, 2006. It may be mentioned that Umesh Pal was murdered on February 24 this year after final hearing in the abduction case.
Sources said that there are more than 100 cases lodged against Atique, but it will be the first time he will be convicted in a case. While Atique was lodged in Sabarmati jail from 2019, his brother Ashraf was kept in Bareilly jail from 2020.
