Nagpur, Aug 1(UNI) At least five people were killed and several critically injured after a massive blast in a boiler ripped through Manas Agro Industries and Sugar Ltd plant at Bela here on Saturday, a senior police official said.
According to the official, the explosion occurred at around 1400 hrs at the Sugar factory (plant), which is part of the Manas Group and was earlier known as Purti Power and Sugar Factory, owned by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari's family.
At least five persons have reportedly been killed on the spot in the blast while some are critically injured, said the police.
The deceased were identified as Mangesh Prabhakar Naukarkar (23), Liladhar Wamanrao Shende (40), Vasudeo Vitthal Ladi (27), Sachin Prakash Waghmare (27) and Prafull Pandurang Moon (25).
All are residents of Wadgaon village.
The reason behind the blast is being probed, the official added.
