At least 20 killed after truck plunges off cliff in Philippines

Manila, Sep 17 (UNI) At least 20 people were killed and 11 others severely injured, after a truck fell into a ravine in the southern province of South Cotabato on Tuesday, police said.
The vehicle was carrying about 30 people from a beach party at a neighboring town and were on their way home when the driver lost control of the vehicle causing the accident at 1030 hrs in Barangay Lamsalome near T’boli town, the Manila Times reported.
"Based on eyewitness accounts, the truck lost its brakes. We will conduct further investigations on the actual cause," police official said.
Fifteen people died on the spot while five others were declared dead at a nearby local hospital, police said.
The dead included children aged between one to six years old, with at least 11 other people rushed to hospital due to their injuries.
Investigators are still trying to determine the real cause of the accident.
