At least 17 dead as trawler capsizes in Bangladesh

Dhaka, Aug 5 (UNI) At least 17 people including six children were drowned as a trawler carrying 48 people capsized in a marshy wetland in northern Bangladesh's district of Netrakona on Wednesday.
The trawler was carrying a group of Madrasa teachers and students, who came to visit Gobindasri Rajali Kanda haor. It sank in the waterbody around 1200 hrs amid inclement weather, said Ramijul Haque, officer-in-charge of Madan Police Station.
On information, divers of fire service and civil defence rushed to the spot and recovered the bodies, a police inspector said. At least 30 passengers managed to swim ashore, the police official added.
Rescue operations were still going on till the last reports came in at 1600 hrs.
