Guwahati, Apr 9 (UNI) Assamese fashion designer Sanjukta Dutta will dress up a top global celebrity in Assam silk and motif for her red carpet at this year’s Cannes Film Festival.
“I am very excited to drape my design on this extremely gorgeous celebrity as it will provide me the platform to present Assam silk in the global stage,” Dutta told UNI here today.
The name of the celebrity was not divulged by Dutta, but she added the celebrity had earlier topped the Forbes list of gorgeous women.
The Assam silk fabric for the dress has been woven in the traditional handloom factories owned by Dutta and the motifs too hand-woven by her expert weavers.
She said, “The fabric is almost ready. We now have to stitch it together.”
Dutta will be flying to Cannes ahead of the film fest in May to ensure that the look and fitting is right.
An engineer-turned-fashion designer, Dutta has also designed the logo for an upcoming Yash Raj film ‘Sui-Dhaga’.
Her creations have been donned by the likes of Priyanka Chopra, Bipasha Basu, Dia Mirza and Preity Zinta and featured in Fashion Weeks in the country.
The traditional Assamese ‘Anga-vastra’ presented to Britain’s Prince William and Princess Kate during their visit to the state in 2016 were also designed by Dutta.
