Guwahati, Apr 10 (UNI) Assam reported its first COVID-19 related death in the pre-dawn hours on Friday when a patient from Hailakandi district breathed his last at Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH) at Silchar.
State Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed the death, adding that 65-year-old Faijul Haque Barbhuyan died due to complication of COVID-19 infection at around 0200 hrs.
Barbhuyan, who had a travel history to Saudi Arabia and Nizamuddin Markaz in Delhi last month, was detected with the infection on April 7 and was admitted at the SMCH since then.
He had developed complications on Thursday and was undergoing treatment in the ICU of the hospital.
At least 29 cases of COVID-19 positive have been detected in the state so far.
