Assam PCC felicitates Manmohan on completing tenure as RS MP from Assam

New Delhi, Jun 26 (UNI) As he completes his term as a member of the Rajya Sabha from Assam after 28 years, the state PCC on Wednesday described former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh as ‘a true visionary who will keep enlightening our path with your formidable erudition’.

In its felicitation of Dr Singh, who completed his term as a member of the Upper House on June 14 this year, the President of the Assam PCC Ripun Bora said, "the long standing association of our beautiful state with your bejeweled political career is a matter of great honour for us. You have represented Assam as a member of the Rajya Sabha for 28 glorious years, from 1991 to June 14, 2019, during which you also stepped up as the Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha from 1998 to 2004 when you were needed to.

In this tenure, which spans over three decades, the comprehensive measures taken by you for the welfare of the state were unparalleled. The special package of Rs 13,000 cr announced in 2008 for the state was just one among many. We remain indebted to you for the love and dedication shown by you to Assam. Representing Assam as a Member of Parliament, gracing the position of Union Minister for Finance, Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha and then the Prime Minister of India is a matter of immense honour for us. We take pride in you, sir.’’

Describing him as ‘the last representative of an era’, Mr Bora said, a variegated life and sage like individuality have turned you into an institution. Even holding the seat of power of a vast nation like ours have failed to effect any change in your gentle and humble bearing. You are the last representative of an era.’’

Singh was felicitated at a function attended by UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and many senior leaders of the Congress, including the AICC incharge for Assam Harish Rawat.
