Guwahati, Jul 16 (UNI) The centre has released Rs 251.55 crores of grants-in-aid
to Assam government to carry out relief operations as the flood situation in the
state continued to deteriorate.
The Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday shared a letter
on Twitter which said the amount has been released towards the central share
of SDRF for 2019-20 on the basis of the recommendation of the Fourteenth
Finance Commission for relief necessitated by natural calamities.
Mr Sarma thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister
Amit Shah for the assistance, saying it will “immensely help in relief operations
and mitigating sufferings of people affected by the flood”.
Meanwhile, flood situation in the states continues to remain grim. As on today,
total 4,620 numbers of villages in 124 revenue circles of all 32 Districts of Assam
have been affected in the Flood. In this season, total 17 numbers of persons
have lost their lives due to flood in the districts. About 44.96 Lakhs of people
have been affected in the Flood.
Presently, 226 relief camps are operational with 1,01,085 inmates and 562
relief distribution centres are functioning in the State, stated an official release.
