Assam develops self-check kiosk to determine COVID, tally crosses 42 lakh

New Delhi, Sep 8 (UNI) With an addition of 75809 new cases across the country, the total number of positive cases of Novel Coronavirus reached 42,80,422 on Tuesday, even as the North-Eastern state of Assam developed a first-of-its-kind self-check kiosk, to determine any viral or bacterial infection in an individual in less than a minute.
According to the date released by the Union Health Ministry, the death toll reached 72,775, after 1133 more people succumbed to the deadly virus.
The country was currently housing 8,83,697 active cases, including 1155 fresh infections, while the number of discharged persons reached 33,23,950, after an addition of 73521 cured persons i the past 24 hours.
Maharashtra continued to top the charts, registering 16,429 fresh COVID-19 cases, taking the total number of cases to 9,23,641, while the recoveries reached 6,59,322, after an addition of 14,922 fresh recoveries, while the death toll reached 27,027, after 423 more people succumbed to COVID-19.
Andhra Pradesh ranked second, with 5,06,493 cases, including 8,368 fresh cases, while the death toll reached 4,487, after 70 people died in the past 24 hours.
Tamil Nadu registered 5,776 fresh cases, taking the total number of cases to 4,69,256, while the death toll reached 7,925, after 89 people died in the past 24 hours.
Meghalaya recorded the highest ever single-day recoveries of 156 COVID-19 patients, adding up the total number of recoveries up to 1716, while only 42 new cases were detected, health officials said.
The small structure helps by streamlining the flow of people through the kiosk and the Kiosk only takes about 30 seconds to check whether the person safe to enter the premises or not.
A first-of-its-kind self-check kiosk, which is quick but very accurate to determine if an individual is running a fever, low blood oxygen levels and, therefore, potentially has COVID-19 or any another viral or bacterial infection has been developed by Indian Institute of Technology, (IIT), Guwahati, in collaboration with Workspace Metal Solutions Pvt Ltd, Udaipur.
With 1667 new COVID 19 cases coming to light, the tally of coronavirus positive cases increased to 1,50, 694 in Bihar. Health department sources said that of the new cases, Patna reported with 208 new cases, taking the tally to 22986 in the district.
