Jakarta, Aug 26 (UNI) Saina Nehwal assured India of a first ever medal in women's singles after she qualified for the semi-finals in the 18th Asian Games held here on Sunday.
She defeated Thailand's World No 4 Ratchanok Intanon in straight games 21-18, 21-16.
In the first game, Saina went from bad to worse against Thailand’s R Intanon. The Indian trailed 3-11 in the first game of the quarter-final. She also took 5 back to back points at the end to win the first game against Ratchanok Intanon 21-18 in 22 minutes.
At the interval in the second game, India's Saina Nehwal fought back and took two point lead against Ratchanok Intanon. The score was 11-9 in favour of the Indian in the quarter-final.
