Asian Games: India beat Pakistan 2-1, settle for bronze

Jakarta, Sept 1 (UNI) India edged out Pakistan 2-1 in the 3/4th playoff to clinch the bronze medal on last day of the Asian Games here on Saturday.

Earlier on Friday India lost 6-7 to Malaysia in sudden death while Indian women's team had to settle with silver.

India are placed at 8th spot with 15 gold, 24 silver and 30 bronze taking total medal tally to 69.

For India it was Akashdeep who provided lead in the 3rd minute of the game, till the first quarter India kept the lead.

In the second quarter also India failed to convert goal into double, but in 50th minute a penalty corner opportunity proved helpful as Harmanpreet Kaur converted it into goal giving India 2-0 lead.

But Pakistan fought back and Mohammad Atiq scored in 52nd minute taking score to 1-2.

With eight minutes remaining in the match, India continued to lead and with final whistle, bronze came their way.
