Jakarta, Aug 23 (UNI) Indian Archer Atanu Das on Thursday defeated Kazakhstan's Denis Gankin 7-3 to advance to the quarter-finals in Archery Contest in the 18th Asian Games, while star player Deepika Kumari lost.
Atanu Das, who ranked 19th in the world, will now face Indonesia's Riau Ega Agatha in the quarter-finals. In the individual recurve event, Atanu was the only Indian archer to reach the quarterfinals, while his teammate Viswash Kumar and women's player Deepika lost to their respective opponents.
Atanu defeated Kazakh player 7-3 in the pre-quarterfinals to win four sets. However, in the second set, 13th Rank Dennis won the third set. But the Indian archer ensured victory.
