Asia Road Racing Championship 2019: Indian rider Rajiv Sethu finishes 15th in Round 6

Asia Road Racing Championship 2019: Indian rider Rajiv Sethu finishes 15th in Round 6

By Ujwal Jalali

Sepang (Malaysia), Sep 22 (UNI) Riding on Honda CBR 250 RR, the charismatic Indian rider Rajiv Sethu finished the Sixth round of Asia Road Racing Championship at 15th position, here at the Sepang international circuit, 75 Km from Kuala Lumpur, on Sunday while his teammate Senthil Kumar grabbed the 17th spot.

With Rajiv finishing in top 15, the Indian team has earned one more point in this tournament.

Rajiv reached the finishing line in 10.378 seconds after Awhin Sanjaya from Indonesia crossed the final mark to grab the first spot. Awhin had a very stiff competition with Andy Muhammad Fadly who was riding on Kawasaki Ninja 250. Andy finished just 0.048 seconds after the first one to secure the second position.

Rajiv had a crash Saturday, nearly three minutes after the race was started, which plunged him to the last position. Despite back and hand injuries, the setback didn’t stop him from performing well Sunday, as he made a giant leap of 15 positions.

His team mate, the 18-year-old Senthil maintained his Saturday’s rhythm to finish at the same 17th position. Today he recorded his personal best lap record of 2:28:241 during the warm up session. During the race he started badly and was thrown away to the second last i.e. 29th position. “My first motive was to recover from this loss” he told UNI. And just in one lap Senthil was able to surpass seven riders – showing his capability as an aggressive rider. Gradually he overcame few others and finally finished his race on the 17th spot.

Speaking with UNI after the race, Honda Motorcycle and Scooter vice president Prabhu Nagaraj said although the desired results were not attained, yet “I am satisfied with the performance of my riders. Rajiv closed in Top 15 with 1-point gain Sunday. Senthil is now more confident and faster on his CBR 250RR and his was a story of recovery Sunday. Now with Sepang over, we head back to India to analyze our performance, identify gap areas and improve further,” he said.

The seventh and final round of this championship will be held at Buriram circuit in Thailand. The riders have already driven on those tracks and are confident enough to bounce back with good results.
