New Delhi, June 24 (UNI) Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari's "Ghar ki Murgi" (Taken For Granted) will be compiled with four other short films centring around modern women’s emotional journey and their relationship with the society into a feature film, "Half The Sky".
"Half the Sky", entitled after Mao’s famous aphorism "women hold up half the sky", is the second BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa) co-production project.
The four other female directors involved in the project are Daniela Thomas from Brazil, Elizaveta Stishova from Russia, Sara Blecher from South Africa, and Liu Yulin from China.
Chinese President Xi Jinping had proposed the idea of such joint film productions at the 8th BRICS Summit in Goa in 2016, and the first co-directed anthology, "Where Has Time Gone?", was released last October.
The project was led by renowned Chinese film director and screenwriter Jia Zhangke, who directed China’s entry in the anthology, entitled “Time.”
The film co-production plan to date specifies that one film will be made and released every year from 2017 to 2021.
"Half the Sky" will be showcased at the BRICS film fest in Durban, South Africa, in July.
It will also hit theaters in China later this year.
Jia, who is the executive producer of the new project, says he hopes "Half the Sky" will help women around the world realise their true value.
"Ghar ki Murgi" featuring Sakshi Tanwar was shown at the ongoing Shanghai International Festival.
