Ashok Lavasa assumes charge as new EC

New Delhi, Jan 23 (UNI) Ashok Lavasa, the 1980 batch IAS officer from Haryana Cadre, on Tuesday assumed charge as the new Election Commissioner (EC) of India.
Mr Lavasa was superannuated as the Finance Secretary on October 31, 2017. Earlier in the day 1977 batch Madhya Pradesh cadre IAS officer OP Rawat took over as the new Chief of Election Commissioner.
Apart from the Union Finance Secretary, he has served as Secretaries in Environment, Forests and Climate Change, Civil Aviation ministries. He has also served as Special secretary in the Ministry of Power and Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Home Affairs.
