As UNSC dates on Masood Azhar approaches, China talks about 'responsible solution'

New Delhi/Beijing, Mar 11 (UNI) China on Monday said it wants to "follow the rules" and favours a "responsible solution" on the issue of the move to designate Pakistan-based JeM chief Masood Azhar as a global terrorist by the UNSC 1267 Sanctions Committee.
"China adopted a responsible attitude, follows the rules of the procedure of the committee and participated in the discussions in a responsible manner. Only through discussions can we come up with a responsible solution," Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lu Kang told media in Beijing.
He also insisted that China's position on the designation of a terrorist by the 1267 Sanctions Committee is consistent and clear.
The fresh proposal to designate Masood Azhar as a global terrorist has been moved by the US, France and Britain after Pulwama Attack.
The remarks came from China, which has earlier blocked such decision, amid reports that the proposal moved by three permanent members the US, Britain and France on JeM chief Masood Azhar as a global terrorist would come up in the UN Security Council on March 13.
China is, however, yet to announce its official stand formally.
In the past China has blocked such a proposal against Masood Azhar three times.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lu Kang said: "First I would like to say that the UNSC as a main body of the UN has strict standards and rules of procedures"
Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Kong Xuanyou also visited Pakistan recently and held talks with Prime Minister Imran Khan and Army chief Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa. The details of the talks are not yet known.
MEA spokesman Raveesh Kumar on Saturday indicated India was hopeful about a positive move this time. "All members of the UNSC are aware about Jaish-e-Mohammad training camps in Pakistan and about the Chief of Jaish-e-Mohammad and his presence in Pakistan. We call upon all members of UNSC to list Masood Azhar as a designated terrorist under 1267 UN Sanctions Committee".
He also said - ".....you would recall that all 15 members of the UN Security Council had unanimously issued a press statement strongly condemning the Pulwama terrorist attack".
To another question whether Azhar's ban issue figured in China's talks with Pakistan, Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Lu said : "Recently India and Pakistan has experienced a lot. We think those indents are not in the interest of peace and stability in the region".
He also said China has 'engaged' in mediation efforts with both sides and held talks to promote the easing of tensions.
"We made enormous efforts. While exchanging ideas security is an important topic ....." he said.
Last week a senior government official maintained that India has been pursuing with all the major players in the UNSC to designate Masood Azhar as a global terrorist.
He indicated that External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj's meeting with Chinese counterpart Wang Yi during the RIC Foreign Ministers meet after Pulwama attack was successful.
In fact, lately Chinese side has also used phrases like 'breeding ground' to refer to terror groups operating in Pakistan.
