Arunachal Speaker emphasises on significance of agriculture

Itanagar, Nov 11 (UNI) Assembly Speaker PD Sona on Monday said Arunachal Pradesh
can become agriculturally rich state as it is blessed with fertile land, water and conducive agro-climatic conditions.
The Arunachal Pradesh Assembly Speaker said this while inaugurating the three-day
Regional Agri Fair 2019-20 themed “Ecosystem Approach for Sustainable Agriculture” at
College of Horticulture & Forestry, Central Agriculture University in Pasighat under East
Siang district of the state .
Emphasising on the significance of agriculture for sustainable economy, the Speaker
said that every civilisation had begun with agriculture and Arunachal Pradesh being an
agro-based state must learn to use modern technology in farming.
He exuded hope that the three-day mega agri-fair will facilitate desired information
among the farmers of Arunachal Pradesh about latest technical know-how in agriculture
and allied sectors.
“Our state is blessed with enormous fertile land, water and conducive agro-climatic
conditions. What we are lacking is technical know-how,” said Sona while calling upon
the framers to avail the opportunity to learn something new from the experts and apply
the same in their practice for sustainable agriculture development.
Stating that Central Agricultural University, Imphal has a very important role in
Scientific Agriculture and providing the technical know-how especially regarding
organic agriculture and market linkages, he also appealed CAU to also focus on
temperate Agriculture as Arunachal has a vast area under temperate zone.
Increasing food production in India particularly in northeast region both for increasing
the per capita consumption as well as the farmers income is needed to be a food surplus
region, he stressed.
Expressing grave concerned over the global warming due to reckless way of doing
the farming, Sona suggested the farmers not to mess with nature and go forward
without harming it.
