Itanagar, May 21 (UNI) Sitting MLA from Khonsa West Assembly constituency Tirong Aboh and 10 others were killed in an ambush in Tirap district of Arunachal Pradesh on Tuesday.
"Eleven persons including MLA Tirong Aboh, his son, two personal security officers (PSOs) were killed in an ambush at 12 Mile, twenty kilometres before Khonsa, between 1330 hrs-1400 hrs," said Arunachal Pradesh DGP SBK Singh.
The DGP said that the four vehicles in which the MLA, his son, election agent, four PSOs and others were travelling from Dibrugarh were ambushed by a suspected insurgent group at 12 Mile and they were fired upon.
“Operation by Army units have also been launched the area for the arrest of the perpetrators. SP immediately rushed to the spot to take stock of the situation and shifted the dead bodies to the hospital at Khonsa for post mortem. IGP (Law &Order) has also moved for Khonsa to supervise and coordinate with different security agencies for the operation,’’ a release issued by the Arunachal Pradesh Police said here.
As per the release, the deceased persons identified are Tirong Aboh and his son Longgem Aboh, Wangngoi Hakhun, Jalin Hakhun, Ganwang Hakhun, Matiam Aboh, Pangro, Pohang Agi (PSO), B Siksa (PSO), while two bodies are yet to be ascertained.
Ct Wangsan Hakhun (PSO) and Wangdan Hakhun have been injured while one woman and a PSO escaped unhurt, it said.
Expressing his deep grief and condolences on the assassination of the MLA and ten others, Governor Brig Retd BD Mishra has vehemently condemned this ghastly act of violence.
He said that the dastardly and cowardly action of the assassins has deeply shocked and pained the entire citizenry of the State.
The Governor said that the State Government is resolved to deal firmly with the situation and the perpetrators of the crime will, sooner than later, have to suffer the consequences of their sins.
He also appealed to the people of our State, particularly in the insurgency-affected areas to help maintain peace and normalcy in their places and, with empathy, stand by the families of the victims of this despicable action of the assassins, a Raj Bhavan release said.
While Chief Minister Pema Khandu has expressed extreme anguish and shock over the unfortunate incident and vehemently condemned the barbarous act and assured that befitting action would be initiated against the perpetrators.
“The barbaric and inhuman act of such magnitude is rare and not acceptable, the CM emphatically said while assuring all possible measures to nab the culprits and give them exemplary punishments. Operation by Army has already been launched while additional forces from Changlang have been rushed to Khonsa for operations,’’ the Chief Minister said in a statement.
