Arunachal CM meets DoNER Minister, discusses issues related to state

New Delhi, Sept 14 (UNI) Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu has called on Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) Dr Jitendra Singh and discussed a wide range of issues related to the state. Dr Jitendra Singh informed Mr Khandu that his request regarding deputation of certain IAS officers in the state had been processed as desired and the needful would be done soon, a statement said. Referring to the recent visit by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to assess the flood situation in Arunachal Pradesh and other affected states, Dr Singh said that Rs 10,000-crore flood relief package announced by the PM was an indication of the Union Government’s concern and high priority for the people of the region. The DoNER was sponsoring a research study through Brahmaputra Study Centre at Guwahati University to evaluate ways of preventing such flood-like situation in future, the Minister said. Mr Khandu had met Dr Singh yesterday and informed that the flood situation had almost normalised and follow-up action carried out effectively. In reference to some of the major projects in Northeast during the last three years, Dr Singh mentioned about the new State Secretariat Building at Itanagar funded by the DoNER Ministry. He also expressed the hope that construction work for the Film and Television Institute which was announced soon after the Modi-Government came to power would start soon. The Minister expressed satisfaction that the land identification and acquisition process for setting up an Airport at Itanagar had been finalised even though after some delay. He said that major achievements of three years of Union government would include setting up of the first-ever airport in the state and also at the same time, bringing the state on the rail-map of the country. Dr Singh said that Arunachal Pradesh was a land of immense beauty and grandeur which had remained unexplored. He said his Ministry was coordinating with other concerned Ministries for promotion of tourism and entrepreneurship through fruit industry others. Mr Khandu appreciated the Centre for its keen interest in the development of the region and said that Arunachal Pradesh, being one of the peripheral and lesser developed states, found itself immensely benefitted because of the liberal support from the Centre.
