Nagpur, Aug 17(UNI) Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad on Saturday said that Article 370 was abrogated because it provided protection for terrorists and their patrons.
Talking to reporters, on the sidelines of the inauguration of the 17th all-India meet of state legal services authorities in Nagpur, Maharashtra, Mr Prasad said Article 370 was scrapped as it was misused to shelter terrorists. The step, he asserted, was taken in the interest of the nation and the citizens of Jammu and Kashmir.
Because of Article 370, which provided a special status for J&K, there were no laws to prevent corruption, child marriage and manual scavenging applicable in the state, the minister said.
