New Delhi, Dec 6 (UNI) Lauding the contribution of Dr B R Ambedkar in Water Resources Management of the country, Union Minister for Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation Uma Bharti today announced that April, 14 will be celebrated as 'Water Day'. Addressing a seminar on marching ahead on Dr Ambedkar's path of water resources management for inclusive growth, organised by the Central Water Commission here, the Minister said, 'In the coming days, water is going to become an important agenda of the government. "Time has come to think on whether we require treated water for every work. We have to find out how to use treated and non-treated water in a better way," she added. Underlining the role of water in different plans and schemes Ms Bharti said there was need to reform water resources management in the country and those misusing this important resource, should be punished. Referring to Dr Mihir Shah's report on restructuring of CWC and Central Ground Water Board, the Minister said, 'We have to bring reforms, but they should be acceptable to all'. Referring to the 99 Accelerated Irrigation Benefits Programme (AIBP) schemes undertaken by her Ministry, Ms Bharti said on the completion of these projects, around 80 lakh hectares of additional land could be irrigated. She said to complete these projects by 2020, CWC had sent teams of young scientists to various parts of the country, who would submit their reports soon. Underlining the importance of state governments and local administration in flood management, the Minister said it was their responsibility to identify flood prone areas in advance and ensure that there was no human settlement.
