Apprenticeship progms expected to boost 25 pc of employment opportunities in Hyderabad in 2019

Hyderabad, Jan 2 (UNI) Apprenticeship programs are gaining traction in helping industries bridge the skill gap and stay ahead of changing employer’s demands.

The programs have seen positive light in 2018 pan India, with some cities witnessing a distinct increased adoption. Over the last year, in Hyderabad and other cities in the Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, apprenticeship programs have seen an increased adoption in the Pharma and Agriculture sectors with almost 70 per cent of adoption seen in the agriculture sector.

This has been mostly higher in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities where roles like field executives (Agri), product line manager (Pharma) and research assessment apprentices (Pharma) have been most in demand. In fact in 2019, apprenticeship programs are likely to boost 25 per cent of employment opportunities in the state across sectors like auto, pharma, agri, IT/ITeS and electronic manufacturing, National Employability Through Apprenticeship Programme (NATAP) a statement here said on Wednesday

To deliberate on increasing the adoption of apprenticeship in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, NETAP recently hosted a dialogue with manufacturing industry leaders, government representatives and trade associations on manpower management, talent creation and growth of apprenticeship in the state.

Some of the key infrastructural developments that are expected to accelerate the adoption of apprenticeship in 2019 are increased investments by the government in the smart cities projects in Kakinada, Tirupati, Visakhapatnam and Greater Warangal and the upcoming OEM unit in Anantapur. Additionally growing preference by MNCs to set up their offices in Hyderabad and the anticipated growth in the auto industry, electronic sector and IT/ITes services sector will further boost the adoption of apprentices in the region.

About 1.3 lakh people have been trained and employed by almost 550 employers pan India under the apprenticeship model. In Telangana itself, 20K-30K have been trained and hired in the last year. The top sectors which saw an increased adoption of apprentices pan India were Retail, Manufacturing, Logistics, & BFSI and in 2019 sectors like Banking, Automotive, Retail and FMCG are likely to adopt as well. NETAP has been extensively working with the central and state governments as well as industry leaders across verticals, towards skilling and creating an employable workforce for India, the statement added.
