New Delhi, Jan 14 (UNI)Supreme Court on Monday refused to quash the FIR registered against one of the accused, Anand Teltumbde, in the Bhima Koregaon case.
A three-judge bench of the Apex Court, headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) Ranjan Gogoi, granted permission to the accused to file additional documents in the case.
The Apex Court allowed him four weeks protection to try to obtain bail.
CJI observed, "Investigation is getting bigger & bigger. At this stage quashing of the proceedings is uncalled for".
Refusing to quash the FIR registered against the accused, Anand Teltumbde, for his alleged role in the Bhima Koregaon case, the Apex Court said, "We are not inclined to interfere at this stage."
Kapil Sibal, Senior lawyer appeared for the petitioner in the case.
The Top Court said that interim protection against arrest granted by the High Court on 15th October, 2018 to the petitioner remained in force until Friday i.e. 18th January, 2019.
"We extend the said interim protection for a period of four weeks from today within which the petitioner may seek regular/ pre-arrest bail from the Competent Authority," the Top Court said, and disposed off the Special Leave petition (SLP) filed by the accused, Anand.
