AP’s Nandi awards kicks up controversy, RGV questions govt

Vijayawada, Nov 17 (UNI) The Andhra Pradesh government announced Nandi awards for best Telugu films for the years 2014, 2015 and 2016 on November 14 has kicked up a major controversy in the two Telugu state as several film personalities, including Ram Gopal Varma and producers ridiculed the awards.
The awards committee, set up by the government for the selection of best films for Nandi awards, announced the awards, which did not go down well to some of the Telugu film personalities. The Nandi awards virtually split the Telugu film industry in two. One of the groups is backing film-actor-turned politician K Chiranjeevi and his family and questioned why the films, in which Chiranjeevi family members acted, were not selected for awards.
Lampooning the Nandi awards selection, famous film director Ram Gopal Varma commented “I have just now seen Nandi awards list. Its mind blowing. Extraordinary, Super Duper selection. As far as I known, this the jury, which announced awards without even one percent bias is great” and ridiculed the award committed stating they should be given “Oscar award” for their selection of best films.
Mr Varma’s comments irritated jury members of the award committee. One of the awards committee members Maddineni Ramesh reacted with highly indecent and vulgar language by posing in the Facebook abusing Ram Gopal Varma. Mr Ramesh’s ugly worded message against Ram Gopal Varma shocked film industry people.
Responding to Maddineni Ramesh’s comments, Ram Gopal Varma reacted in his Facebook, stating that he did not bother for scolding him. But he feels sorry for the government for selecting such a person as member for the Nandi awards committee. “I do not understand whether I should pity on the government for selecting such a persona as award committee member or wonder as such a person is member in awards committee” he said. Mr.Varma demanded the state government for an explanation on the controversy on the Nandi awards.
