AP policy impacts Karnataka border liquor sales

Kolar, July 10 (UNI) A revision in Andhra Pradesh’s excise policy by the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) government has led to a significant downturn in liquor sales across Karnataka’s border districts, particularly in Kolar, with bars and wine outlets witnessing a marked drop in business and footfall.
According to excise department officials, a once-thriving trend of Andhra Pradesh consumers crossing over into Karnataka to purchase liquor, owing to a price differentia, has reversed sharply over the past year.
Under the previous YSR Congress-led administration, Andhra Pradesh had implemented a steep hike in liquor prices under its 2019–2020 excise policy. This drove thousands of consumers to Karnataka border towns such as Bangarpet, Mulbagal, Srinivasapura, and KGF, where popular liquor brands were available at lower prices.
