AP district leads rain water harvesting initiative

Anantapur, Oct 10 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh district Anantapur bagged first place in digging more than on lakh farm ponds as part of rain water harvesting and increasing ground water level in the country.
Farmers as well as officials have striven hard to win the first place in farm ponds with the initiative of state government.
Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu congratulated the past and present collectors Kona Sasidhar and G Veerapandian of Anantapur district for achieving the credit and presented a citation on Wednesday.
It may be noted that the state government has taken up the initiative of digging farm ponds to benefit the farmers through water harvesting measures in all the 13 districts. Taking the message of the government as a mission the farmers and officials of lowest rain fall, district Anantapur completed digging of 1,04,358 farm ponds to prevent migration of farmers.
Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has taken up the programme to make Anantapur a drought proof district.
As a result of the farm ponds now farmers are able to protect their standing crops including horticulture in a big way.
