AP: Building workers demand free sand policy to prevent migration of labour

Kakinada, Oct 6 (UNI) The building workers union, at its meeting here on Sunday, has resolved to demand the government implement a free sand policy eliminating the middleman so that labour migration could be avoided for want of employment.
In a resolution, the meeting pointed out that 36 types of building workers, such as masons, coolies, painters, carpenters, tile and marble workers, plumbers, and electrical workers, were migrating to other states for want of work.
Due to the sale of sand at an exorbitant price, they said, the building construction activity has come to a standstill, and workers were starving. `Sand is being sold at Rs 36,000 for five units.
