Amaravati, Nov 30 (UNI) The Legislative Assembly here on Monday passed the Andhra Pradesh Panchayat Raj (Amendment) Bill 2020 by 'voice vote'.
The house passed the Bill in the same format as it was introduced earlier.
Panchayat Raj Minister Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy explained the salient features of the bill and the house rejected the amendments proposed by the Council.
Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy intervened when the Opposition tried to raise objections when Mr Ramachandra Reddy was tabling the Bill and explaining the salient features.
‘The Bill was earlier passed by the Assembly and was sent to the Council which had returned it with some amendments.
This is the second time the Bill is being tabled in the house and it is just a formality for getting it passed. There is no reasoning on part of the Opposition to make it an issue,’ the Chief Minister said.
As the Council has sent the PR (Amendment) Bill 2020 back, we are passing it in the house for the second time, he said.
“There is no scope for again negating the Bill. What was decided by this house with a majority of 151 members will prevail and the same Bill in its original form is before the house for consideration and passing remains a formality.
The Opposition is acting as if the Bill has been introduced and it is unaware of it”, Mr Reddy told the members.
The Bill has a provision to check the malpractices in elections, including money power, and reducing the election process by expediting the schedule, besides allowing action to be taken even after the election results was announced.
