Anticipatory bail granted to Karti Chidambaram in Aircel-Maxis case

Anticipatory bail granted to Karti Chidambaram in Aircel-Maxis case

New Delhi, Mar 24 (UNI) A city court on Saturday granted anticipatory bail till April 16 to Karti Chidambram in the Aircel Maxis case.
It gave three weeks time to the investigating agencies CBI and Enforcement Directorate to file their replies on the anticipatory bail application of Chidambaram jr.
Counsel for Karti Chidambaram submitted that there was neither any allegation against Karti in the Aircel Maxis case nor there was anything to show that he knew the Foreign Investment Promotion Board officials. Karti was ready to abide all the conditions if anticipatory bail was granted by the court.
Karti, counsel submitted, had cooperated in the other matter INX Media case and there was no question that he would flee the county or tamper with evidence.
Chidambaram jr had sought protection from arrest in the Aircel Maxis matter which CBI and Directorate of Enforcement (ED) have lodged in 2011 and 2012 respectively.
The matter arose out of the 2G spectrum scam and pertained to the grant of FIPB clearance to M/S Global Communication Holding Services Ltd for investment in Aircel.
Special Judge O P Saini granted anticipatory bail to Karti and further directed that he shall not leave the country without the permission of the court and to appear before the investigating officer if summoned.
